Defense In All Courts
In Tennessee, there are two different court levels: sessions court and criminal court.
The process typically begins in sessions court, which is presided over by a judge only. Here, the accused is arraigned and the charges are explained. Prior to your sessions court appearance, we will conduct an investigation and interview witnesses, getting as much information as time allows. At the court date, we may argue issues such as whether a crime was actually committed and whether there was probable cause for the arrest. If the charge is not dismissed, a hearing date and bond may be set. A plea might also be entered.
The next step is criminal court, which is where the jury trial takes place. We will engage in thorough preparation, conduct discovery and write motions as necessary. We are skilled at cross-examination and arguing in front of a judge and jury. You can be certain that we will do everything possible to obtain a positive verdict.
